Cycles, Oct. 21: Solar Returns and New Moons

Hello Reader,

Why is nobody looking at Solar Returns as part of a longer arc? I’ve never found a book, a class, or even a mention of it. Even my astrological software won’t let me create charts beyond the immediate year. I had to switch to another app and get creative before I could look at my Solar Returns for the past three years. When I asked why on the software’s help site, they said, “Nobody needs it.” Really? I can’t believe I am the only one who uses this easy and powerful way to see how our years build upon one another. Or does it take a Ph.D. in physics to notice? 😉

Join me on Oct. 27 for a one-hour exploration of what Solar Return charts are and how to use them as a map for your upcoming year. We'll keep it simple without getting bogged down in astrological complexity. Don't forget to sign up no later than Wednesday, Oct. 22 if you wish me to look at your Solar Return chart and send you a copy of it before the class starts. And yes, the class will be recorded and you will get access to it within two days after our class.

We are under a New Moon today—the best time to set intentions. You can set them any time, of course, but there’s something special about this monthly moment when imagination and intuition pair with the Sun’s drive for expression. The New Moon opens a fertile window for insights and new beginnings.

This one occurs at the end of Libra (right on my Ascendant—yay!) and near the threshold of Scorpio. To support these two energies and make the most of this New Moon, try a simple Jin Shin Jyutsu self-help hold today: gently hold your index finger, or place your hands on the small of your back (at the area of SEL 23) and rest them there for 3–5 minutes or for as long as comfortable. I often do this while watching a movie and end up holding for much longer.

In Jin Shin Jyutsu, the energies of Libra and Scorpio correspond to Bladder and Kidney Function Energy (or the Bladder and Kidney Meridians in TCM). These flows support our existence by giving us strength and courage to face whatever comes our way—qualities especially needed in these days of fearful news and rising conflict around the world.

Best,

Tatiana

Effortless Reality

Hi, I’m Tatiana—a physicist turned spiritual explorer. In Cycles, I look at how the same laws that shape the physical universe also guide our inner lives—and how we can use them in practical ways every day. Each issue explores cosmic patterns like eclipses and retrogrades through both scientific and metaphysical perspectives, with simple self-help tools from Yoga and Jin Shin Jyutsu to help you live more effortlessly in sync with life’s rhythm.

Hello Reader, I was preparing for tonight’s Cycles Lab on Solar Return Charts—you can still hop in if you feel called—when I was reminded again how the Moon always brings change. She tugs at our moods and comfort zones, and before we know it, something shifts—inside or out. Today, the Moon is in Capricorn, a sign that favors quiet focus over drama. It’s a good day to simplify, get things done, and pause long enough to catch your breath—especially with Mercury Retrograde approaching on Nov 9....

Full Moon surrounded by clouds.

Hello Reader, Welcome back to Cycles. In just over a day, the Moon will reach fullness and enter Earth’s shadow in a total Lunar Eclipse. You may already feel the shift—last night it rose through the trees, stark in size and color, a vivid reminder that this is a powerful time for release. A Dream Practice Two nights ago, I asked my guides to heal subconscious trauma, guilt, and regrets while I slept. The Full Moon is ideal for release, so I thought: why not ask for the big help? Sure enough,...

Bright sun

Hello Reader, My birthday passed just ten days ago, and the vibe of my life has shifted dramatically. You can glimpse the flavor of the year ahead by looking at your Solar Return chart—the snapshot of the sky at the moment the Sun returns to your birth position. I did just that for myself, and here’s what I found. Last year, both my Sun and Moon landed in the twelfth house—the domain of hidden work and behind-the-scenes effort. And indeed, I spent much of my time finding my footing in a new...
